As they walked hand in hand toward the gallery, she marveled at the way the sunlight danced off the colorful autumn leaves, painting a vibrant tapestry around them.

"Look at this one," Jarrod said, pointing at a particular piece that had captured his attention. His dark hair was slightly tousled, giving him a boyish charm that Sarah found irresistible.

She leaned in closer to study the artwork, her soft hair brushing against his arm. The swirling lines and bold colors spoke to her soul, stirring a deep emotional response within her. "It's beautiful," she whispered, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

"Almost as beautiful as you," Jarrod murmured, his fingers gently tracing the curve of her cheek.

Sarah blushed, feeling a surge of warmth spread through her chest. ” So, tell me something about your childhood that no one else knows.” She blurted out.

“Oh, let’s see,” Jarrod responded without missing a beat. “I hid my mother’s favorite silver serving dish and serving spoons as buried treasure and then couldn’t find them. How about that for a scandalous family secret?”

“No one ever knew?” Sarah gaped at him.

“Not as far as I ever found out. I wanted to play pirates and have a buried treasure. Mom was cleaning the silver for some party they were going to have. The dish and the spoon were so bright and tempting, my six-year-old little self couldn’t resist. I felt bad when I saw my mother so upset and I went to dig them up, but couldn’t find my secret spot in the woods. I knew my dad would tan my hide so I never said another word to a living soul until I just told you.”

“Jarrod Mitchell! As a ward of the court, aren’t you compelled to come clean?” Sarah laughed and shoved his arm as she made her exclamation.

“I suppose I should, but the statute of limitations for theft has expired.” Jarrod said between his own laughter. “I should probably get a metal detector and check those woods, but I suspect my dad already did that and the silver is home in my mother’s collection safe and sound.”

"Jarrod, I…" she hesitated, searching for the right words to express her gratitude. "I can see that you're really trying."

His eyes met hers, filled with sincerity and vulnerability. "I really care about you. I hope you know that by now."

As they continued to wander through the gallery, Sarah pondered his words, her heart swelling with affection. She had begun to see the consistency in Jarrod's efforts, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to deny the depth of his commitment to their relationship.

"Maybe we can try painting together sometime?" she suggested, squeezing his hand. "I think it would be fun to explore our creative sides together."

"I'm not so sure how good I'd be, but I'd love that," Jarrod agreed, his eyes twinkling with enthusiasm.

As they left the gallery, a cool breeze rustled through the trees, scattering leaves around them like confetti. It was a perfect ending to a day filled with deep conversations and new memories.
